Local Patch 3Local Patch 1Great food is a product of great caring – putting one’s hard work and passion into the plants and animals we raise.  Our daily commitment to positive vibrational intent is expressed in an attitude of gratitude that brings a spirit of abundance to our cattle and all that we touch.  When we give freely the fruits of our labor multiply before us in lasting relationships that honor and increase our investment in the land.

As the April sun climbs ino the sky renewing the grass beneath our feet we are poised at a remarkable moment of personal and professional growth.  Cloverbud Ranch in Portsmouth will move forward this season with an incredible team of partner producers buildng a farm co-op on our 100-acre grazing property that has never before been seen before in the history of Rhode Island agriculture.  We are excited to have Andrew and Amy Smith of The Local Patch in the house.  The sufer and yoga teacher / wellness instructor will be growing organic greens and vegetables in a low-till model that retains soil moisture and builds fertility while protecting water quality in the reservoir which we abut.  Plastic sheeting is going over the hoop houses where they start their seedlings and we look forward to sampling the wonderful produce they will grow along our Jepson Lane frontage.

Dasilva hens 1Dasilva hens 2Josh and Felicia DaSilva will tend their flocks out in the back fields with our hrd of 27 cattle rotationally grazing on lush coastal grass.  Their pastured chicken and free-ranged eggs are grown without any antibiotics or hormones.  The broilers are moved daily to distribute their manure and break the pathogen cycle that can sicken birds that remain too long in one spot.  They receive certified GMO-free grain and build amazing nutritional value (Omega-3 and B vitamins) eating grass and fly larvae out of the dung patties which will reduce the fly load on our herd  this summer.  Two Portuguese cattle dogs will live with their girls protecting them from the coyote packs that roam Aquidneck Island.  We will have whole frozen birds and parts at our Farmstand along with our grass-fed beef.  There will be DaSilva chicken sausage and pot pies they have made for them at a commercial kitchen in Providence.  Josh will also be raising Thanksgiving turkeys for your special order.

Michelle 1Michelle 2Flowers and herbs will be grown in two hoop houses by our friend Michelle Cruz.  She brings a lifetime of plant-based knowledge gained from her Cape Verdean grandmother and aunt.  This country girl has been recently stuck too long in the city and is eager to scratch the farming itch.  Michelle plans to make an interesting selection of herbal teas, beauty products and syrups along with her fresh and dried herbs and flowers.  Adam Simcock of Gold Leaf Honey (Certified Natural Grown) in Swansea will put 10-20 beehives in the woods by the pond.  The farm yield will benefit and we will have tasty healthy local wildflower honey for you at the Farmstand.
